A global initiative created  to accelerate the implementation of eco-efficient communication and best practices across the industry has announced  a major sponsor.

The Coalition for Energy Efficient Comminution (CEEC) has announced that it has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Newmont Mining Corporation.

CEEC CEO Alison Keogh welcomed the partnership with Newmont and highlighted the company’s track record for achieving superior economic, environmental and social performance in the mining industry.

“Both CEEC and Newmont are keenly interested in innovative minerals processing practices that increase shareholder value and enhance sustainability performance. Newmont’s sponsorship helps us continue sharing industry-leading best practices that foster efficient mining with a smaller footprint,” Ms Keogh said.

Scott Lawson, Newmont’s Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, said the company was pleased to support the global comminution and minerals processing network’s efforts to improve energy efficiency in mining operations.

“Creating sustainable, long-term value for all of our stakeholders is at the heart of what we stand for and what we do,” Mr Lawson said. “Energy-efficient processes are central to driving down operating costs while reducing our carbon footprint. The knowledge shared through CEEC helps us and other mining companies be more efficient producers while also enhancing our sustainability performance.”

Ms Keogh said Newmont had already demonstrated its willingness to share best practices in energy efficient approaches by supporting the publication of work developed by Newmont staff.

In 2017, the prestigious CEEC Medal (Operations category) was awarded to Aidan Giblett and Steven Hart for their paper titled ‘Grinding Circuit Practices at Newmont’. The publication documented the practical approaches used to improve energy efficiency in grinding practices across 12 Newmont operations worldwide.

“By sharing how it improved the efficiency of comminution, Newmont has inspired others to also look for ways to enhance productivity and shareholder value while reducing energy use,” Ms Keogh said.

Ms Keogh said that the collaborative sharing of comminution research and insights was key to driving productivity improvements, lowering costs and maximising net present value (NPV) in mining and minerals processing operations.

“Sponsorship from Newmont and our other valued supporters helps us to continue to connect leading thinkers with innovative energy-efficient approaches to improve triple bottom line performance. By freely disseminating high quality resources online, and by hosting workshops globally, CEEC is proud to help businesses stay at the cutting edge of sustainable minerals processing,” she said.
