Adani launches construction at Carmichael project in Queensland, Australia
Adani has officially begun construction at its Carmichael coal and rail project in the Galilee Basin following last week’s approval from the Queensland Government.
Water management activity, bridge and road upgrades, fencing and Geotech “are being conducted safely and in line with environmental approvals” the company stated. Queensland’s Department of Environment and Science (DES) approved Adani’s groundwater management plan (GDEMP) for the mine last week.
The recent approvalcommitted Adani to additional monitoring of water sources in the region, including undertaking hydrogeochemical analysis of groundwater and spring samples from within each spring complex.
Upon receiving final environmental approval to begin work at Carmichael Gautam Adani, Adani Group Chairman, commented:“Our remarkable journey of conviction, resilience, and commitment in Australia enters a new phase. The level of construction activity will steadily increase over the coming weeks. The project will deliver 1,500 direct and 6,750 indirect jobs during ramp up and construction, with Rockhampton and Townsville the primary hubs for employment.
The Whitsunday, Isaac, Central Highlands, Mackay, Charters Towers and Gladstone regions will also benefit from work packages and employment opportunities.
