Petra Diamonds announce the 121.26 carat diamond discovered at Cullinan
Diamond miners Petra Diamonds, which operates at five mines throughout South Africa, has announced the unearthing of a 121.26 carat white diamond from the Cullinan mine.
The Type II diamond, diamonds that have no measurable nitrogen impurities and often of top quality in terms of colour and clarity, joins a long list of some of the most significant diamonds ever discovered at the Cullinan.
The diamond of “exceptional colour and clarity” will be sold in the last tender of Petra’s 2016 financial year, currently underway in Johannesburg.
Cullinan earned its place in history with the discovery of the Cullinan diamond in 1905, the largest rough gem diamond ever found at 3,106 carats, which was cut to form the two most important diamonds in the British Crown Jewels.
